Die Projektidee

The idea for the PhraseoLab project, which is co-financed by the European Union, arose from the teaching innovation projects on the teaching of German phraseology through English; these projects have been coordinated by the PhraseoTic group at the University of Murcia. From our teaching and research activities, we know that there are few interactive exercises for learning fixed phrases. PhraseoLab therefore responds to the current need for teaching materials that contribute to the systematic promotion of phraseological competence in DaF classes.
The aim of PhraseoLab is to provide a freely accessible digital teaching resource for learning phrases for GFL learners with English as their first foreign language. The concept of PhraseoLab is based on utilising the learners’ prior knowledge and in particular their existing linguistic repertoire of fixed phrases in the bridge language English and building and expanding this in the target language German.
PhraseoLab is based on the plurilingual approach, which is becoming increasingly important in foreign language teaching, and on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe 2001; 2020). It is designed to contribute to the development of learners’ linguistic competence in the field of phraseology.
The learning resource includes interactive learning activities based on multimodal texts (audio, video, illustrations), a multilingual database with fixed phrases in German, English, Danish, Greek, Polish and Spanish, and a guide for teachers and language learners.
